Darwin is Australia’s only tropical capital city and one of the most multicultural.

Darwin is in the monsoon belt, where there are two seasons; hot and wet (when floods and cyclones can occur) and hot and dry. The climate of Darwin is mainly tropical, with the dry months from May to September and the wet months usually from December to March. Temperatures range from 25-33°C in the wet season and 20-30°C in the dry season. The average rainfall is 321mm in the wet season and 2mm in the dry season.

Darwin, Palmerston and the surrounding rural area has an estimated population of 147,255 people, making up approximately 60% of the total NT population.

Health

The region has fourty private general practices and one Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service, Danila Dilba Health Service, which operate seven clinics in this region.

Royal Darwin Hospital has 360 beds, offering a large range of services in all speciality areas. Co-located is Darwin Private Hospital, with 104 beds, offering specialised private services. Palmerston Regional Hospital has 116 beds and offers a range of specialty services.
