The NT Health Workforce branch offers a range of support to general practitioners who are working toward obtaining Fellowship of either the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).
Five Year Overseas Trained Doctor Program
The Five Year Overseas Trained Doctors Scheme (Five Year OTD Scheme) provides assistance and incentives to attract suitably qualified and experienced Overseas Trained Doctors (OTDs) to regional, rural and remote locations in Australia. The Five Year OTD Scheme provides a reduction in the ten-year moratorium on provider number restrictions.

Rural Locum Relief Program
The Rural Locum Relief Program (RLRP) is an approved workforce program under Section 3GA of the Health Insurance Act 1973. The RLRP allows medical practitioners working in rural and remote areas to access Medicare benefits for a temporary period during which they achieve Fellowship.
A minimum of two years general practice experience assess by the RACGP is required to enrol in this program. The RLRP runs for a maximum of four years.

Fellowship Exam Preparation Workshops
NT PHN offers participants of the Five Year OTD Scheme and the RLRP the opportunity to attend pre-exam workshops. These workshops aim to provide candidates with knowledge and skills to successfully pass the Fellowship Exams. NT PHN also offers ongoing continuing professional development opportunities throughout the year across a broad range of topics.
