Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (Sunrise) is seeking Executive Manager, Medical Services (EMMS), to join their committed team.

Why Sunrise Health Service?

The Sunrise approach involves Aboriginal communities taking part in controlling their own health. Everything from financial management and governance, staff selection and service delivery priorities are directed by the organisation’s Aboriginal Board and Community Health Committees.

Sunrise services 9 remote communities to the east of Katherine and serves a population base of approximately 3,800 people – many with chronic illnesses requiring early detection and amelioration.

What’s the role?

The EMMS provides strategic, and clinical leadership and oversees the delivery of evidence based comprehensive primary health care. The EMMS is a key member of the Executive Management Team (EMT) and works closely with the Executive Manager, Primary Health Care to ensure coordinated and best-practice service delivery.

As the lead in clinical governance, the role monitors and influences the quality of clinical care to ensure best practice.

  • Deliver primary and emergency medical care, including case management of chronic illness
  • Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of primary health care professionals
  • Participate in and support health screening, surveillance and health promotion programs
  • Work closely with the EMT on the leadership of the organisation
  • Provide supervision and facilitate professional support to Sunrise GPs
  • Monitor GP medical performance and output against KPI targets and develop management systems to ensure optimal outcomes
  • Ensure accurate Medicare claiming and facilitate claiming by the rest of the team
  • Work closely with the GP Registrar program providers for the Sunrise region
  • Maintain GP rosters, coordinate GP recruitment and GP locum services
  • Manage issues around Clinical Risk, by leading regular clinical case reviews

Is this the right role for you?

Before you apply, we need you to have:

  • Specialist registration with Australian Medical Council / Australian Health Professions Regulatory Authority (AHPRA)
  • Post Graduate qualifications (Fellowship / Masters) in Public Health or similar is desirable
  • Registered as a Supervisor of GP Registrars
  • Current unrestricted Drivers License
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Demonstrated experience in a multifaceted remote Aboriginal Medical Service and high-level leadership
  • Experience to lead and support multi-disciplinary teams
  • An understanding and commitment to the principles of Aboriginal community control of comprehensive primary health care delivery
  • Experience working in the Northern Territory and detailed knowledge of its health system
