What’s the role?
The primary purpose of the Rural Medical Practitioner role is to provide primary medical services to the Maningrida community and surrounding outstations, by utilising your rural and remote experience and working collaboratively with other health professionals, to deliver excellent health care to patients.
What are some of your responsibilities?
- Providing primary medical services
- Providing public health services using a community development model to enhance health outcomes, improve services and infrastructure
- Providing a holistic approach to health care that includes care planning and case conferencing with patients who have a chronic disease
- Being responsible for the coordination of medical retrieval and patient travel services, which includes tasking Care Flight aircraft and crew

Before you reach out and apply, we need you to have:
- Unrestricted working rights within Australia
- Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Fellowship with RACGP or ACRRM
- Appropriate rural training or equivalent training and experience
- Proven and extensive post graduate clinical experience, including general practice, paediatrics, obstetrics and emergency medicine
- Commitment to Aboriginal primary health care linked to “closing the gap” initiatives
- Ability to travel by road or light aircraft as required
- Current National Police clearance and Working With Children (NT Ochre Card)
- Current Indemnity certificate and drivers license
What’s it like living in Maningrida?
Maningrida is one of the largest remote towns in the Northern Territory, with a population of 2,600 residents, and is located approximately 500km east of Darwin and 300km northeast of Jabiru in Arnhem Land at the mouth of the Liverpool River.
Maningrida is the major service centre for the region with a school, health clinic, multiple food outlets, two supermarkets, service station, arts centre, creche, and a tarmac airport with commercial flights operating daily to Darwin.
