What’s the role?
This is a part-time position (ranging from 0.3 FTE to 0.6 FTE depending on your preference) that will see you travelling from Darwin one day a week, to Minjilang and Warruwi communities to provide clinical services, leaving another one day each fortnight for reviewing results, case conferencing, care planning, general admin, etc.
The role provides a unique opportunity for a GP to split their time between remote indigenous primary care in an ACCHS service, and mainstream urban GP practice, for example.
This role will suit a GP currently working in a clinic or hospital in Darwin on a part-time basis who is looking to pick up extra work with a tangible impact on the lives of locals. Candidates outside of the NT will also be considered, with relocation assistance on offer for those looking to move interstate for the position.
What will you be doing?
- Your role will focus on the integration of Indigenous cultural imperatives in the delivery of healthcare in the context of an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service
- You’ll provide clinical services and organisational duties, as well as occasional interactions with Health Advisory Groups as needed (e.g. providing responsive health advice at the request of local communities)
Where will you be working?
Minjilang is the main Aboriginal settlement on Croker Island, sitting on the pristine waters of the Arafura Sea approximately 250km north-east of Darwin and home to flora and fauna unlike anywhere else in the world.
Warruwi is the main township on South Goulburn Island, approximately 300km east of Darwin at the eastern base of the Cobourg Peninsula. The island has a mix of natural landscapes including pristine beaches, marshlands and rocky outcrops harbouring an abundance of unique wild
Selection criteria to apply:
- Specialist General Practitioner registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Fellow of RACGP or ACCRM
- Minimum of three (3) years’ post fellowship general practice experience
- Experience working in a remote setting and ideally with some professional exposure to Aboriginal communities
- Previous experience working in chronic disease management
- Some exposure to PCIS electronic health record (or similar)
- A respect for Aboriginal people, as well as cultural awareness/sensitivity
- Willingness to travel in light aircraft and/or via 4WD
NT PHN/RWA NT may be able to offer Scholarships or Bursaries to health professionals who are delivering clinical services in an MM6 or MM7 location.
