GP Locum – Mala’la Health Service – Maningrida

Mala’la Health Service are seeking an experienced specialist general practitioner to provide GP locum services at Maningrida Health Centre.

Eligibility to apply

  • Current non-restricted specialist registration by the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA)
  • Fellowship of RACGP or ACRRM
  • Previous experience in Indigenous Health
  • Experienced in PCIS patient record system highly desired

The Clinic

Currently working in the clinic are two GPs, one GP registrar, 12 remote area nurses, three Aboriginal health workers, two Aboriginal community workers, and two administration officers. Visiting services include a surgeon, physician, paediatrician, dental team, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, mental health and occupational therapist. Maningrida Health Centre has 13 consulting rooms.

Clinic Hours

  • 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday
  • Locum is not required to provide on-call services or work weekends

Available equipment:

  • Defibrillator
  • IV cannulas
  • Slit lamp
  • I-stat machine
  • Laryngoscope
  • ET tubes
  • Point of care HbA1c testing
  • Intra-osseous needle
  • ACR testing
  • Orthopaedic plaster
  • Baby ventilation masks

Transport and accommodation

  • All transport from the nearest major airport to and from your location arranged by NT PHN (Conditions apply)
  • Accommodation and vehicle provided by the health service. The vehicle is not available for use outside of work hours
  • Accommodation includes a fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, TV, DVD player and radio

Patient record system

  • This clinic uses PCIS
  • Previous experience with PCIS is highly advantageous
  • Orientation will be provided if required

Location

Maningrida is one of the largest Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory, located approximately 352 kilometres east of Darwin on the Central Arnhem Coast at the mouth of the Liverpool River.

The population of Maningrida is approximately 3,000 people which comprises town residents and traditionally-based outstations, or which there are more than 30. A culturally diverse community, with 13 different language groups spoken, ceremony and traditional artwork remain an important part of daily life for many community members.

Successful permanent GP candidates are eligible to apply for our Health Professional Relocation Grant to cover up to $10,000 of relocation expenses, as well as our Health Workforce Scholarship Program in MM6 and MM7 locations, for post graduate training or a one off training event up to $10,000.
