Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (Sunrise), is seeking Remote Area Nurses to join their passionate and committed team in various locations within the Katherine Region.

Why Sunrise?
Sunrise is a community-controlled health organisation providing comprehensive primary health care services through nine remote health centres, to some 4000 people living in the Katherine East Region. Being successful in the role, you will be a valuable part of the health care team providing comprehensive primary health care.

What’s the role?
The role is based in a Sunrise health centre located in the Katherine region, and will require the successful applicant to relocate and live in community to deliver excellent health care. You will be able to demonstrate a strong background in delivering culturally safe healthcare, be tenacious, passionate and perform well under pressure.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to-

  • Assisting the Health Centre Manager to implement the plans and directions as outlined in the organisation’s Business Plan
  • Building the capacity of Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) staff to provide the highest possible standard of culturally appropriate health care
  • Working with other health care professionals, both internal and external to Sunrise, to achieve positive outcomes in overall levels of health and well-being within the community
  • Working with others to provide acute care and accident and emergency care
  • Participating in a duty roster including on-call equally with other staff

Before you reach out and apply, we need you to have:

  • Registration with AHPRA as a general nurse
  • Proven broad, comprehensive primary health care experience with advanced clinical skills and competencies needed to work effectively in remote areas
  • Previous rural and remote Indigenous nursing experience
  • Clear respect for Aboriginal culture and commitment to participate in inter-cultural awareness activities
  • A current manual driver’s licence, Ochre Card & recent Police Clearance, or ability to obtain

This small community offers modern facilities for residents including shopping, cinemas, hotels and cafes. Katherine is a central base for major government providers and surrounding pastoral properties, as well as the nearby RAAF Tindal defence base. Katherine is also home to the world’s largest school room – Katherine School of the Air.
