Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) for Northern Territory primary healthcare professionals is a two day professional training that will apply mental health best practices to your working environments and populations.

Facilitated by Sacha King, a Darwin-based experienced counsellor and master trainer, the education will be practical and follow best practice.

Alongside your health professional colleagues this is an opportunity to discuss approaches and options when clients present with mental health problems or in a mental health crisis.

Topics covered include:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • suicidal ideation
  • panic attacks
  • self-harm
  • psychosis
  • traumatic events
  • aggressive behaviours
  • substance misuse
  • and mental health referrals and recovery.

MHFA courses are based on evidence of what is best practice mental health first aid to support someone who has a mental health problem or is experiencing a mental health crisis. This evidence has been developed in partnership with the University of Melbourne, through developing guidelines that cover a number of mental health problems, crises and in different contexts. Once developed, courses are evaluated to assess the outcomes.

This training opportunity is open to all professionals working in healthcare, clinical and non-clinical.
