Eating disorders are not a choice but are serious mental illnesses. Eating disorders can have significant impacts on all aspects of a person’s life – physical, emotional and social. The earlier an eating disorder is identified, and a person can access treatment, the greater the opportunity for recovery or improved quality of life.
The National Eating Disorders Collaboration (NEDC) has a vision to bring together eating disorder stakeholders and experts in mental health, public health, health promotion, education, research, and the media to help develop a nationally consistent approach to the prevention and management of eating disorders.
Building an effective and consistent system of care that addresses eating disorders requires a multidisciplinary and multi-agency response. Coordination and continued collaboration can support the best possible outcomes for those at risk of or experiencing an eating disorder.
