Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation is the regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service in East Arnhem Land, providing clinical services to the residents of Gapuwiyak. This is primarily a solo GP clinic currently utilising locum GP’s whilst recruiting permanently. This is a great opportunity to explore the role with a “Try Before You Buy” Locum placement.
The Gapuwiyak clinic is nurse led, with a clinic manager RN background and 5 FTE registered nurses including 1 midwife. There is currently 3 Aboriginal Health Practitioners working in the clinic and support staff are Yolngu community members: 2 drivers, 2 reception staff and 1 administrator.
Dates Available:
- Dates available 18 September to 6 October 2023
- Minimum 3 week placement
- Permanent FIFO opportunity available, rotating 6 weeks on 6 weeks off
Daily Rate:
- $1650 per day
Clinic Opening Hours
- 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday
- No on call, call out/public holiday work
Transport and Accommodation:
- All transport from the nearest major airport to and from your location is arranged by NT PHN (conditions apply)
- Accommodation will be provided while on placement by the health service
Patient Record System:
- This clinic uses Communicare, with orientation will be provided
Eligibility to Apply:
- Must have current non-restricted registration by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and general practice specialisation is essential
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, values and beliefs
- Indigenous Health experience
What’s it like in Gapuwiyak?
Gapuwiyak is a mainland community located on the shore of Lake Evella near the upper reaches of the Buckingham River. It is 60 air km south east of Galiwin’ku and 115 air km west of Nhulunbuy (220 km by good gravel road).
There is almost year round road access to Nhulunbuy and the road to Katherine can be cut in the wet season. The community has an average population of around 1000 Yolŋu people. Gapuwiyak is a traditional Aboriginal community with restricted access.
