Top End

The Top End region is a large remote area that includes Daly, Tiwi Islands, and West Arnhem.

Region

The Top End includes communities such as Dundee Beach, Wadeye, Tiwi Islands, Maningrida, Adelaide River, and Litchfield and Kakadu National Parks. The region includes idyllic islands like South Goulburn, with its pristine beaches and broad marshlands, and the Croker Island group, a breeding ground for three species of marine turtles.

The Top End has a tropical climate. The dry season runs from April to November, with temperatures of 17-33°C. The wet season is from December to March, with temperatures ranging from 24-33°C.

This region has an estimated population of 17,872 people, approximately 7% of the total NT population.

Health

There are two Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services in the region – Mala’la Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (Maningrida) and Peppimenarti Health Association.

NT Department of Health operates a number of Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) clinics throughout the region.

There is no hospital within this region, residents are required to travel to Katherine or Darwin for hospital services.
