Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Service Review 2017

NT PHN commissioned the NT Mental Health Coalition (NTMHC) to complete a review of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention services across the NT. Read our Executive Summary of the report or view the Final Report of the Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Service review.

We are currently working with key stakeholders to commission new mental health services through the following initiatives:

  • Activities delivered in the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Model in Primary Health Care
  • Provision of Low Intensity Psychological Services
  • Mental Health Nurse Program
  • Youth Severe Mental Health program
  • Community Suicide Prevention Program
  • National Suicide Prevention Trial.

NT PHN is also the lead agency for the Partners in Recovery (PIR) program while we transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

In 2015, the Commonwealth Government released the Contributing Lives, Thriving Communities – Review of Mental Health Services and Program report.  This report outlined a significant reform of mental health programs and services aimed at increasing the efficiency and sustainability of mental health system in Australia and an engaged health workforce driven by community needs.

With one in five Australians experiencing a mental illness, the reforms present a significant opportunity to reshape the delivery of mental health services towards a more flexible and responsive model of care.
