The My Health Record system is a pivotal ehealth project steering Australia’s health system towards a digital future.
The My Health Record system commenced nationally in July 2012 and is an opt-in system for individuals and health care providers. It provides a secure online summary of an individual’s health information to health care providers who care for them.
What Health Practitioners Say About Using the My Health Record System
"All clinicians are motivated to give the best care possible to every patient who walks through their door. Although there are many challenges ahead (some already identified and others likely to emerge) the *PCEHR has amasing potential to improve continuity of care and increase safety of health services for all Territorians. During a recent after-hours GP shift I had an older gentleman with multiple medical conditions that recently returned from interstate for management of a significant active problem. He informed me that he was registered with 'the national system'.
I clicked on the *PCEHR icon (in Medical Director) and within seconds a full description of his active condition, past history, in-hospital management and recommended post-discharge care was listed with clarity and detail. This clinical information, which was easily downloaded, was extremely helpful to support his immediate requirements and to also support his ongoing integrated multi-disciplinary health care needs. This was a positive experience for the patient and supported the holistic care that we strive to achieve everyday in primary health care".
