National Suicide Prevention Trial

Darwin Suicide Prevention Trial

Darwin is one of 12 regions selected for the Australian Government’s National Suicide Prevention Trial (NSPT). The NSPT aims to gather evidence of how a systems-based approach to suicide prevention can be best undertaken in Australia. It covers a three-year period from 2016-17 up to 2018-19, including development, implementation and evaluation.

The Darwin trial aims to identify the best approach to suicide prevention amongst Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Darwin region and will target people who have attempted or are identified as at a high risk of attempting suicide. Under the trial, suicide prevention services will take a tailored approach to best meet local needs. Development of the trial is underway and it will be Implemented and evaluated by 2018-19.

See the NSPT Work Plan covering activities up 2018-19.
