Kylie Hogan – Why I work with NT PHN

One of the key roles of NT PHN is the commissioning of services to improve health and wellbeing outcomes in the Northern Territory. That’s where our Regional Health Partnerships (RHP) Leads, such as Kylie Hogan, come in. Our RHP team manages and facilitates our partners, service providers and services and ensures they’re evidence-based and responsive to community needs.

With 7 years of public health policy and program management, Kylie focuses on aged care and older Australians at risk of homelessness. She shares her experiences working with NT PHN and how she addresses barriers to healthcare.

Can you introduce yourself?

Hi, I’m Kylie Hogan! ????

What is your role title and what is the purpose of your role? What are your responsibilities?

I am one of the new Regional Health Partnerships Leads and sit in Regional Health Integration. A key part of my role will be to have a focus on the Central Australia region, as we move to our regionalisation approach.

In terms of projects and contracts, I am currently supporting our existing Assistance with Care and Housing (ACH) service providers to transition to the Care Finders program, which comes into effect on 1 January 2023. This is an aged care initiative and involves working closely with the Strategy Planning and Performance team.

I also have oversight of an Older Australians Wellbeing program and will be taking on board some other mental health related programs – watch this space!

How are you committed through your role to improving the health and wellbeing outcomes of the NT?

In my previous role at NT Hearing Services, I was lucky enough to visit numerous remote communities to get a sense of some of the challenges associated with healthcare access. With these experiences in mind, I am committed to addressing how barriers to accessing healthcare impact health and wellbeing outcomes, and what we (NT PHN) can do through our commissioning process to overcome them.

What’s a stand-out experience from this year?

My recent visit to Alice Springs to meet with key stakeholders and connect with regional NT PHN colleagues. It was great!

What are some exciting projects coming out of your branch?

I’m a bit biased, but the Care Finders project is exciting.

Why do you like working for NT PHN? What brings you to work every day?

Lots of energy and change, which is super inspiring! Friendly colleagues and interesting work bring me to the office every day ????

How would you describe the values and culture of NT PHN?

Creative and committed – everyone seems passionate about genuinely making a difference to people’s health and wellbeing.

What is your background / experience?

My background is 7 years in public health policy and program management at the Department of Health in Victoria (state government), and before that in the not-for-profit sector in community development and health promotion.
