Mental Health NT website launched

A partnership between NT Primary Health Network, Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance NT and NT Health, has launched a new mental health website to support Territorians – Mental Health NT.

The website is one of the first projects to result from a project group working collectively to improve
integration across the mental health service system.

Working Group Chair, Ms Clare Martin said “The website is an online resource to help connect people with services to meet their immediate needs. People can click through and choose how they’re feeling or other issues they need help with and be guided to appropriate, local services for help.”

Northern Territory Primary Health Network (NT PHN) Chief Executive Officer, Gill Yearsley said, “We are lucky to have representatives from the Top End and Central Australia Health Services, non-government community mental health sector, Aboriginal community-controlled sector, Territory Families and those
with lived experience of mental illness on our group.

We also engaged directly with people with a lived experience of mental health or suicide to design the content of the website. It’s a tool that can be used by people who need help themselves, their carers, friends or family.”

The website is already seeing strong results, with an average of 200 unique views per week since its release and 65% of users accessing it via their mobile phone.

Designed to improve people’s access to both local and on-line mental health services, the new website complements a range of other work underway, including the planning for a new Adult Mental Health Centre in Darwin, regionally-specific mental health and suicide plans and ongoing funding for a range of mental health programs, provided by both Australian and Territory governments.

Ms Martin said, “What we’ve seen throughout COVID, is an increasing need for mental health services to support Territorians and both levels of government, are working hard to provide locally appropriate services and support.”
