Shivangi Singh – Why I work with NT PHN

Shivangi Singh has just joined the Health Policy and Strategy team as the Workforce Planning Consultant.

With a colourful background from working in dentistry to local policy making, she is responsible for leading our Workforce Planning and Prioritisation Project assisting the transition of GP training to RACGP and ACRRM.

Hi! I’m Shivangi I have recently moved to the NT to work with NT PHN.

Travelling is my passion and Australia is the fourth continent I’ve lived in. My thirst for learning and new experiences is what drives me in life, and it’s always a plus having friends and family all over the world 😀

What is your role title and what is the purpose of your role? What are your responsibilities?

I work as Workforce Planning Consultant in the Health Policy and Strategy team. I’m still getting around to understanding all my responsibilities, but in the short time that I’ve been here I’ve had to dive headfirst into understanding how everyone at NT PHN does all the wonderful work they do.

I intend to use a policy analysis and strategic planning lens to understand how the entire primary health care network can work cohesively to deliver the best care for the Northern Territory.

How are you committed through your role to improving the health and wellbeing outcomes of the NT?

As a migrant, I thoroughly believe that everyone should have access to the same opportunities and avenues. With my background as a dentist, who’s performed work in remote communities I also believe that health and well-being should be at the top of those opportunities!

I intend to use my experiences and expertise to be able to form well-evidence policies in conjunction with the operational teams to make sure that the same avenues that were afforded to me can be afforded to everyone that calls the Northern Territory their home. I’m thankful to be in a space that can help me achieve those things and be able to give back to the communities that have accepted me with such open arms.

What’s a stand-out experience from this year?

Would packing up my life for the 11th time and moving states count?

On a more serious note, the most stand out work that I’ve done in my previous job in policy around helping to protect retail workers, has been accepted as the law in the SA Parliament which was very fruitful to see.

I am also very excited about the opportunity to get to live and work on Larrakia country in a space I’m very passionate about.

What are some exciting projects coming out of your branch?

The Workforce Planning and Prioritisation Project which will help aid the training and address workforce needs while the RTOs undergo a massive transition in GP training to RACGP and ACRRM is something I’m thrilled to be working on!

Why do you like working for NT PHN? What brings you to work every day?

The opportunity to be making an actual change in the health and life of Territorians is what brings me to work every day. Having an excellent team that not only lead with purpose but love and collaboration is a very big aspect of it all. And then I’m constantly looking forward to Fridays to pet all the dogs I can manage 😀

What are some recent opportunities you want to highlight?

The amount of responsibility that I’ve been afforded in such a short time, as well as getting to meet and know everyone is a highlight. I love how easy it is to approach anyone and everyone at NTPHN to be able to work with them! I’m also optimistic about the Workforce Planning and Prioritisation project.

How would you describe the values and culture of NT PHN?

Inclusivity, kindness, and patience would be a big part, in my short term here I’ve felt so included and capable of being able to perform the things that are asked of me and that wouldn’t have been possible if people had not treated me with such kindness and patience in the questions I asked and the help I so desperately needed!
