Territory women unite at major conference

More than 500 Territory women have gathered in Darwin today to celebrate, be inspired and educated at the No Woman Left Behind Conference.

Sponsored by NT PHN, the Conference is the largest event targeted at females in the Territory.

The event, delivered by local charity No One Left Behind, was held at the Darwin Entertainment Centre and attracted women from all backgrounds, cultures and age groups.

The theme of this year’s event was ‘Leadership in Action’ with special guest speaker, 2021 Australian of the Year, Grace Tame, set to inspire the crowd with her stories about being a survivor of sexual assault and one of Australia’s most influential female activists.

The Conference included presentations, workshops, a Wellbeing and Safety Expo, business talks, and shared stories of lived experiences.

NT PHN was proud to be represented by our own women at the conference, with several staff members attending the event to learn more about the issues affecting women in the Territory and to foster positive relationships within the community.

“The No Woman Left Behind Conference is a day to celebrate women and be a part of the discussions relating to how we can as a community can contribute to the better health and wellbeing of women,” said NT PHN CEO, Gill Yearsley.

“NTPHN is focused on health care integration through effective partnerships and conferences like this help encourage collaboration across the sector and inspire community-led initiatives to improve health and wellbeing.

“NT PHN is committed to addressing health equity, funding a variety of programs and services to ensure women can access the right primary health care, when they need it.”

Some of the services and programs NT PHN funds to help Territory women stay healthy include:

  • Northern Territory Aids and Hepatitis Council – Women Health Program
  • NPY Womens Council – Youth Program in Central Australia
  • Northside Health LGBTQI+ Monthly Clinic, which flies in doctors once a month to deliver free gender-affirming specific health care, and
