The Practice 

Central Australian Aboriginal Congress (Congress) is an Aboriginal community controlled health service providing comprehensive primary health care services to Aboriginal people in Alice Springs and across five remote Aboriginal communities in Central Australia. Congress works in partnership with the local Mpwelarre Health Service board to deliver primary health care to the Santa Teresa community.

The Role 

The Remote General Practitioner works with a team of dedicated Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, allied health professionals and visiting medical specialists to provide health care to the Aboriginal people of Central Australia at a number of locations.

The GP provides the clinical leadership to the Mpwelarre Clinic and collaborates with all Congress services, visiting Allied Health Professionals and other specialist services. This position is based in Santa Teresa.

Essential Criteria

  • current registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • fellow of the RACGP or ACRRM or a minimum of five years experience in General Practice
  • good communication skills, especially in a cross-cultural environment
  • willingness and ability to accommodate Aboriginal values and traditions in clinical practice
  • ability to work well under pressure and work effectively in a multidisciplinary primary health care team
  • willingness, ability and appropriate levels of health and fitness to travel to and from work from remote locations.
