The Organisation:

Rural Workforce Agency Northern Territory (RWA NT) are partnering with Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation to find a General Practitioner to join their passionate team in their newly established health service in Gapuwiyak NT.

Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation is the regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service in East Arnhem Land, providing comprehensive primary health care services for over 6,000 Indigenous residents of North East Arnhem and public health services for close to 10,000 people across the region.

The Role:

As the successful General Practitioner, you will join a passionate multidisciplinary team to improve the health and welfare of the people of East Arnhem Land. Working with the Yolngu people, you will be able to promote preventative health care, whilst being able to have timely intervention in acute and chronic medical conditions. Working in community will be a rewarding experience both professionally and personally, with you realising the difference that you make to people’s lives and a life experience that will be long remembered.

Key Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Active participation in the daily clinical and health promotional routines
  • Manage referrals of patients from other members of the health team
  • Review and follow-up of patients with on-going conditions
  • Participate in rostered clinics and outreach services such as, Chronic Conditions and Child Health
  • Provide “in-service” education to health staff

Essential Criteria:

To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the below essential criteria:

Only applicants with full working rights within Australia will be considered (Australian Citizen or Permanent Residents)

  • Current Resume with 2 contactable references
  • Covering Letter addressing the essential criteria
  • Medical Practitioner’s Specialist GP Registration with AHPRA
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, values and beliefs
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to communicate sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from different cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues effecting the health and well being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in contemporary society
  • Extensive experience in General Practice
  • Commitment to improving Aboriginal health through primary health care
  • Previous experience in a community or Clinical and Primary Health Care Service
  • Demonstrated experience or understanding of Aboriginal Community Control Primary Health Care Service
  • Ability to function as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills
  • Confident in dealing with information technology

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working in a remote Aboriginal community
  • Ability to speak an Aboriginal language from the region and/or knowledge of traditional kinship systems operating in the region
  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal workforce training issues in an NT context

Appointment is dependent on providing the below:

  • Current Police Records Clearance
  • Current Working with Children Clearance
  • Current manual Driver’s License
