The Organisation:

Rural Workforce Agency Northern Territory (RWA NT) are partnering with Territory Therapy Solutions to find an Occupational Therapist to join their passionate team in their Darwin clinic. Territory Therapy Solutions work with people of all ages, assisting to overcome difficulties, conditions or impairments that affect their ability to participate in everyday life. A highly trained and experienced team including, Psychologist, Exercise Physiologist, Physiotherapist and Allied Health Assistants, work to find solutions to bring about a productive change in their client’s life.

The Role:

The successful Occupational Therapist provides high quality and comprehensive Occupational Therapy services to clients referred to Territory Therapy Solutions in urban and remote settings. Specialising in rehabilitation and therapy services, the role works with clients that have suffered stroke, acquired brain injury, progressive neurological conditions, spinal cord injury, amputees and burns/lymphedema.


The Location: The Top End

The Top End region is home to Darwin, Australia's only tropical capital city. Darwin is arguably one of Australia's most cosmopolitan cities with a population consisting of more than 60 nationalities. The greater Darwin area has a population of approximately 120,500 people. The city's multicultural mix is highlighted by its many exciting cultural festivals and weekly food and craft markets. There are plenty of activities to keep you entertained including the Deckchair Cinema, sailing, museums and shopping centres as well as being nearby Litchfield National Park for great camping and swimming. The region has a tropical climate with a distinctive dry and wet season.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Completion of assessments and treatment programs relevant to occupational therapy for clients with a broad range of diagnoses including neurological, spinal, multi trauma, progressive degenerative, amputee, sensory and cognitive issues and congenital conditions
  • Equipment Prescription (Simple ADL and Complex) including pressure care equipment, wheelchairs
  • Completion of home modifications assessments (Simple to Complex) and administration activities around recommendations
  • Completion of assessments and therapy programs to consider cognitive, upper limb, sensory and low - level behavioural function
  • Use of therapy assistant as required to meet client treatment goals • Completion of FIM, and care needs assessments
  • Education of carers in the administration of Occupational Therapy programs to improve functional outcomes
  • Travel to home, community (urban, remote and very remote settings)
  • Entry of data in Workflow Max relevant to daily client and non-client activities
  • Quality Improvement activities to enhance the current Occupational Therapy service

Essential Criteria:

To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the below essential criteria:

  • Current resume with 2 contactable referees
  • Cover letter addressing essential criteria
  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Experienced in the completion of assessments and treatment programs relevant to occupational therapy for clients with a broad range of diagnoses including neurological, spinal, multi trauma, progressive degenerative, amputee, sensory and cognitive issues and congenital conditions
  • Able to provide supervision of staff, including therapy assistants to administer program
  • Proficient in working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience working in cross cultural environments, with mainly Aboriginal Australians and have a sensitivity to their cultural beliefs
  • Experience in working in NDIS or other third party funding parties
  • Completion of Care Needs Assessments
  • Current Police clearance
  • Current Working with Children (Ochre Card)
  • Current driver’s license

Desired Criteria:

  • FIM and/or WeeFIM Creditialled
  • Driving Assessment Trained
