Rural workforce Agency are partnering with Mala’la Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (Mala’la), to find a Registered Nurse with experience in child health, for their Healthy under 5 Program located in their clinic in Maningrida Northern Territory. 

Mala’la’s vison is to improve the health and wellbeing of the people in the Maningrida community and the surrounding outstations. The services provided by Mala'la health service include primary health care, aged care, renal dialysis, community wellness, and youth services.

User-added imageBeing the successful Child Health Nurse, you will be able to promote and improve the health of children from 0-5 years of age along with their families, in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner and also work collaboratively with other team members in Maningrida and the surrounding outstations.

The Location:

Maningrida is a remote indigenous community in Arnhem Land Northern Territory, that boasts a beautiful seaside location steeped in history and culture. Approximately 520km east of Darwin and 300km north east of Jabiru, the traditional landowners are the Kunbidji people. The name Maningrida comes from the Kunbidji name Manayingkarirra, which comes from Mane Djang Karirra (the place where the dreaming changed shape). Being originally established as a trading post and later a mission, Maningrida is now home to over 2,800 and is a major service centre to more than 30 outstations and homelands. With daily flights to and from Darwin, Manigrida is well appointed with a school, health clinic, food outlets, supermarkets, service station, arts centre, amazing cultural tours and exciting fishing expeditions. Access is by air all year or road access in the dry season. Barge services are available for freight from Darwin.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Maningrida Clinic to identify a cohort of children that require health checks and immunisation
  • Identify and prioritise health needs by working collaboratively with families and the broader community
  • Provide culturally safe, competent and comprehensive care
  • Develop and maintain a strong referral pathway
  • Work with the broader team and external agencies

Selection Criteria:

To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the below essential criteria:

  • Proof of full working rights within Australia
  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Postgraduate qualification in Child Health, or currently enrolled in a Child Health qualification
  • Current Vaccination Certificate, or willingness to obtain
  • Extensive post graduate experience, with experience working in a remote Aboriginal community
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in developing, implementing and evaluating evidence-based child health programs in the 0-5 age group
  • Current Police Records Check
  • Current Working with Children (Ochre Card)
  • Current manual Driver’s License
