Rural Workforce Agency Northern Territory (RWA NT) are partnering with Anglicare NT to find a Youth Mental Health Clinician (YMHC) to join the headspace Primary Team in Darwin. Anglicare NT is a respected provider of quality human services across urban, regional and remote areas of the Northern Territory (NT) and was formed by the Anglican Diocese of the NT to respond to the social needs of the diverse community. The role of the YMHC is responsible for providing early intervention clinical assessments and therapeutic interventions for young people with mild to moderate mental health issues and their families accessing headspace Darwin.

This fantastic opportunity is based in Darwin in the Northern Territory (NT). The city itself has a lot to offer from quality restaurants in top class locations, shopping centres, multi-cultural events and shows, excellent sporting facilities and a range of great accommodation. With all the city has to offer it is coupled by the incredible national parks, waterfalls, fishing and camping spots. The top end is host to the Kakadu National Park for instance which is the largest and potentially most spectacular in Australia. The NT is a multicultural and multifaceted location which not only offers a great way of life but also great career opportunities for development and progression.


Key Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Provide evidence based therapeutic interventions, including mental state, risk assessment and safety planning.
  • Conduct client focused biopsychosocial assessments with young people utilising a range of assessment tools including the HEADSS assessment tool to ensure that young people have access to appropriate services and responses to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
  • Manage and escalate matters of clinical risk and actively work towards risk reduction strategies in consultation with the Clinical Lead, Centre Manager (Primary), and Operations Manager Primary Mental Health Services.
  • Ensure that data collection and clinical documentation is completed and meet legal and professional requirements and minimum data set requirements of headspace National Office.
  • Participate in clinical review meetings, and intake meetings and ensure you are meeting standards of service delivery according to the headspace model integrity framework and as set out in the headspace Darwin Primary Team Operational Manual.

Essential Criteria:

To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the below essential criteria:

  • The minimum qualification required is an approved tertiary qualification and minimum 1-year experience in a health-related discipline and registration with the relevant regulatory body such as AHPRA or membership of and adherence to professional standards, for example AASW for social workers.
  • Undertake the provision of individual client work, including take, assessment, counselling, treatment and support to young people and their families accessing the headspace Darwin Primary Team.
  • Effectively record data in various electronic systems including the electronic medical record and local data collection applications.
  • Experience in working with young people within a mental health or youth service setting and a clinical multidisciplinary framework.
  • A demonstrated understanding of mental health issues affecting young people, best practice treatment options, support services and co-morbidities.
