General Practitioner - Central Australian Aboriginal Congress - Amoonguna

The Practice

The position sits within the Amoonguna health service and works with a multidisciplinary team including a Clinic Manager, GP, Registered Nurses, trainee Aboriginal Health Practitioner, Transport and Liaison Officers and an Administration worker. The position reports to the Clinic Nurse Manager and receives clinical leadership from the Medical Director. The GP provides the clinical leadership to the Amoonguna Clinic and collaborates with all Congress services, visiting Allied Health Professionals and other specialist services.

The Role 

The Remote General Practitioner works with a team of dedicated Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, allied health professionals and visiting medical specialists to provide health care to the Aboriginal people of Central Australia at a number of locations. The GP provides the clinical leadership to the Amoonguna Clinic and collaborates with all Congress services, visiting Allied Health Professionals and other specialist services.

Essential Criteria

  • current registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • fellow of the RACGP or ACRRM or a minimum of five years' experience in General Practice
  • good communication skills, especially in a cross-cultural environment
  • willingness and ability to accommodate Aboriginal values and traditions in clinical practice
  • ability to work well under pressure and work effectively in a multidisciplinary primary health care team
  • willingness, ability and appropriate levels of health and fitness to travel to and work from remote locations.

Location
