Primary health care providers in the Northern Territory looking to develop and strengthen their workforce can now apply for grants of up to $40,000.
Funding of $400,000 is available under the Rural Workforce Agency NT’s Workforce Development Grant program.
The program helps primary health care providers support their staff and build workforce capacity.
All non-government primary health care providers are eligible to apply.
Executive Manager Health Workforce, Paul Connolly, said funding could be used for activities such as the development or delivery of innovative workforce models, strategies, systems or policies.
“The aim of the Workforce Development Grant program is to develop a more skilled and innovative workforce in the Territory, which will deliver a better quality of care, particularly to Indigenous Territorians in remote communities,” he said.
“We’re looking for providers who want to develop emerging workforce roles such as Allied Health Assistants and Peer Workers, which will help address key workforce shortage issues in the NT.
“Priority will also be given to providers who service remote areas of the Territory to look at ways they can develop and retain their staff who are critical to primary health care in the NT.”
Example activities eligible for Workforce Development Grant include:
- an online learning platform for employees
- develop a business case for organisational recruitment and retention incentives
- create an organisational level mentoring / buddy program for new employees
- trial emerging roles, i.e. allied health assistant or nurse practitioner as a workforce solution
- conduct a viability study or develop a business model for an alternative workforce models
Application to Round 2 of the 2022 Workforce Development Grant are now open.
Applications close on 17 October 2022.
