Men and mateship on the agenda at major forum

Men’s health was front and centre at a major forum in Darwin today.

Sponsored by NT PHN, the International Men’s Day Forum is the largest gathering of men in the Northern Territory.

The event, run by local mental health company, Noone Left Behind, brings Territory men together to raise awareness of men’s health issues and identify solutions with this year’s theme: Mateship.

This year’s event brought together 210 Territory men aged 20 – 70+ from a range of diverse cultures and industry. The event included Key Speakers, workshops and discussions on suicide prevention, leadership, alcoholism, remote engagement, financial support and family matters.

NT PHN was proud to be represented by our own men, with several staff members from across our organisation attending the event to learn more about the issues affecting men in the Territory and to foster positive relationships within the sector.

“The International Men’s Day Forum is a day to celebrate men and be a part of the discussions relating to how we can as a community contribute to the better overall health and wellbeing of the men in our lives,” said NT PHN CEO, Gill Yearsley.

“With men equating to 75% of suicides in the country, and even more in the NT, this Forum is an important opportunity to shine a spotlight on some of the key issues affecting the mental health of men today.”
